In 1997 unit was assigned Fleet Adversary mission for training pilots and was painted camouflage in 2001 to mimic potential adversaries. Last commander was CDR. L.T. Slats are not hydraulic but instead operate by air pressure impinging on the wings as air speed and angle of attack changed. The large flaps and moveable slats would aid the jet in carrier landings.
